Senior Backend Engineer (Java, Spring Boot)

You will join the Money Movement group at Northwind Labs, which owns the ledger, settlement engine and payout orchestration. These are the services the rest of the company depends on, so correctness is non-negotiable and every change ships behind a flag with a documented rollback. You will work with a product manager, two other senior engineers and a dedicated SRE. Expect roughly 60% deep implementation work, 25% design and review, and 15% production support on a compensated on-call rotation shared across six engineers.

• Design and build idempotent, horizontally scalable services in Java 17 and Spring Boot
• Model double-entry ledger flows and reconciliation jobs against partner bank files
• Drive p99 latency and infrastructure cost down through profiling and query tuning
• Review designs and code for two engineers, and mentor one associate engineer
• Participate in a compensated on-call rotation and write blameless incident reviews

• 4+ years building production backend services in Java or Kotlin
• Strong grasp of relational data modelling, transactions and isolation levels
• Hands-on with Kafka or a comparable event streaming platform
• Experience operating services on Kubernetes, including debugging live incidents
• Clear written communication — we run a design-doc culture
